NOVAPET GLASSTAR is a new PET resin, developed at the NOVAPET PET CONTAINER TECHNICAL CENTRE, which produces bottles with the appearance and thickness of glass, through the conventional process of injection and blow-moulding.
PET for premium products
Due to the numerous advantages it provides, PET has been substituting glass in all types of containers, except in those in which appearance plays an important role. But now, premium products such as mineral water for quality markets have found in NOVAPET GLASSTAR a new option which combines all the traditional advantages of PET with the appearance and consistency of glass.
Look like glass but is light, unbreakable and... cheaper
The bottles produced with NOVAPET GLASSTAR have a perfect distribution of material in the container wall, which, in turn, gives it an extraordinary appearance, with the brilliance and transparency of glass bottles. As with PET bottles, these bottles, as well as having an excellent appearance, have the added advantage of being light, unbreakable, and cheaper to produce.
Extraordinary design possibilities
With NOVAPET GLASSTAR, starting from
preforms with a thickness of up to 9 mm, it is possible to obtain bottles of great thickness, with a consistency which makes it possible to use metal caps to seal them. The special characteristics of this PET resin allow a perfect copy of every detail of the bottle, such as the rims, inions or etchings; thus, there are no limits to the design applications for the bottle.
Utilization in standard bottling lines
The use of PET instead of glass makes it possible to simplify processes of supplies, storage and transport enormously and facilitates packing operations. NOVAPET GLASSTAR can be processed in glass bottling lines, or take advantage of the already existing conventional PET blow moulding lines, in order to include a new range of premium products.
Recyclable
Technically, the NOVAPET GLASSTAR can be injected at 235º, a much lower temperature than the usual one; thus the material hardly undergoes any degradation, resulting in very low acetaldehyde levels, and very high intrinsic viscosity. As a result, the bottles have great consistency and unequalled recycling capacity.
Proccessing Ease and Cost Reduction
The low process temperature, in combination with the thermal crystallization inhibition properties and the increased infrared absorption capacity (NIR) of NOVAPET GLASSTAR resin, result in exceptional process conditions, which in turn lead to reduced expenditure, due to a shorter process cycle and an increase in the process window.
For the bottling or packing of any product
This resin is compatible with the use of resins of all types which add colour or improve its barrier properties or those of UV filters.
